Alpine strawberries in coco coir

I am currently growing alpine strawberries using coco coir.

The coco coir has a very good water retention ability and its structure allows a very good aereation of the roots. To compensate the nutrient deficit of this growing medium I water my alpine strawberries with a nutrient designed for hydroponic culture.

The plantlets I show here, as you can see, have been started from seed already in coco coir and they have been transplanted to coco coir minipots. So the only medium these alpine strawberries know is coco coir.

Although I have been brave to transplant very small plantlets, none of them has died. All of them have survived. During next days I will face the next challenges:

- battle against the red spider mite, white fly, leafhopper and thrips.

- experiment with symbiotic mycorhyza
